Biological Molecules

Types of Molecules

Chemicals

Carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Only proteins have nitrogen.

Smaller Molecules

These biological molecules are made up of many smaller molecules.

  • Starch & Glycogen: glucose
  • Protein: 3 fatty acids and glycerol
  • Protein: amino acids

Enzyme

An enzyme is a protein that acts as a biological catalyst. Enzymes increase the rate of reaction but are not used up during the reaction.
